Albini Mission Church, Ntshongweni is an on-going heritage project for the Catholic Archdiocese of Durban. It involves the upgrade and expansion of an existing historical Church and the integration of the Church into the Albini Mission complex development plan. Heritage, liturgical and fiscal requirements have been the major generators of the design as well as community involvement.
A significant component of the project is to conserve the existing stone church. The two main issues are dealing with the ant infestation (they have tunneled into the mud mortar), as well as some structural issues. To be continued….
